President's Committee on Diversity

The President’s Committee on Diversity will promote a welcoming educational and professional environment that cultivates and celebrates diversity in all of its facets, including the tolerance of different perspectives, thought, backgrounds and life experiences.

The committee will actively support university strategies and programs involving recruitment and retention of a diverse community of students, faculty and staff.

It will serve the campus community by fostering and promoting the ideals of mutual respect, teamwork, and appreciation for multiple perspectives in a safe and inclusive environment.

DELTA DAYS, January 16-20, 2012

MONDAY, JANUARY 16

MLK, Jr. Faculty and Staff Breakfast

·         Remarks from President Scoggins
·         Presentation of the MLK, Jr. Recognition Awards
·         Remarks from Dr. Derrick Hudson, LAIS. Dr. Hudson will provide perspective on Dr. King
as the inconvenient hero, going beyond the “safer” message of King’s stirring “I Have a Dream” speech
to King’s later years, when his message and witness became more radical and challenging to the status quo
at every level. This event also will serve as a complement to the Thursday DeltaDays event with Dr. Vincent Harding,
confidante and speechwriter for Dr. King, noted scholar and activist, and author of "Martin Luther King: The Inconvenient Hero."
 
TIME:               Light breakfast will be served beginning at 7:30 am
                                                Program will begin at 7:45 am and end by 9:00 am
